Museum of Modern Art
The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is one of New York’s most popular museums and contains the finest and most comprehensive collection of 20th-century art in the world. The collection’s highlights include work by Matisse.

Guggenheim Museum
The museum contains Solomon R. Guggenheim’s excellent collection of impressionist and post-impressionist paintings. The building itself is also worth seeing as its spiral form is truly unique and is the only building in New York designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Picasso, Miro and later modernists.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art
This museum of art houses more than three million works of art from all over the world, and hosts more than 30 special exhibitions each year. Collections include pieces by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Degas, Van Gogh and Matisse; Greek and Roman sculptures.

The Frick Collection
The opulent residence that houses this private collection was originally built for industrialist Henry Frick. The permanent collections include world-class paintings, sculptures and furniture by the likes of Rembrandt, Vermeer and Renoir, and French cabinet – maker, Jean Henri Riesener.

The Museum at FIT
This museum houses one of the world’s most important collections of clothing and textiles by the influential fashion historian Valerie Steele. The collection focuses on aesthetically and historically significant ‘directional’ clothing, accessories, textiles and visual materials, with emphasis on contemporary avant-garde fashion.

The Brooklyn Museum of Art
The Brooklyn Museum of Art is the second largest art museum in New York City and one of the largest in the United States. Its permanent collection includes more than one and a half million objects, from ancient Egyptian masterpieces to contemporary art.

 

MEDIA & PERFORMING ARTS

New York TV & Movie Tours
Few tours are available: New York TV and Movie Sites, Sopranos Sites, and a Central Park Movie Sites tour showcasing some of the most famous places seen on screen. The second half of the day consists of a film-making workshop at The New York Film Academy where students get an introduction to each step of the film-making process before breaking into groups to work on each aspect of the film.

American Museum of Moving Image (MOMI)
Formerly the home of Paramount Pictures East Coast HQ, the museum exists to educate the public about the art, history, technique and technology of film, television, and digital media and examines their impact on culture and society.

The Paley Centre for Media
The museum presents a wide variety of programs from the collection in two screening rooms and two main theatres. The Ralph Guild Radio Listening Room offers a unique way for visitors to experience the radio collection.

NBC Studio Tour
Now more interactive, the revamped tour still offers behind-the-scenes access to the studios, where shows like Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show are made, as well as the historic halls of 30 Rock. Additionally, the school group will learn about the entire TV production process, from writing and producing to the ways TV content gets to your home, and then produce your own show in their brand new Tour Studio which you can then download to keep for free.

Radio City Music Hall Tour
A tour will explain the history of the building and show the beautiful art deco interiors. The students will learn the secrets of the Great Stage, one of the largest indoor performance stages in the world; the stage’s hydraulic system, and their impressive new technological features.

Lincoln Centre of Performing
Students will explore the world-renowned Metropolitan Opera House, Avery Fisher Hall, New York State Theatre, Vivian Beaumont Theatre and Alice Tully Hall. They will also hear fascinating stories told by engaging tour guides and on occasion catch a rehearsal.

Broadway Classroom Workshops
Designed for all educational groups including workshops for performing arts students such as ‘Broadway 101’, an introduction to basic theatre skills and ‘Theatre in Context’. Other workshops available workshops are stage makeup, choreography, costume design and improvisation.

Recording Studio Visit
Take a 50-minute behind-the-scenes tour of a professional NYC recording studio. Students will meet professionals within the music industry who will explain the logistics and operations of a recording studio, as well as their personal experiences within the industry and educational history of recording.

 

HISTORY & POLITICS

United Nations Headquarters
Guided tours of the Headquarters include an explanation of its history, its structure, its composition and who designed the famous buildings located by the East River. The tour covers the newly renovated chambers and work of the Security Council, the Trusteeship Council and the Economic and Social Council Chamber. There is an opportunity to meet with an Australian representative of the United Nations and discuss Australia’s input and mission.

9/11 Tribute Centre
Five galleries of stories, images and artefacts will walk you through the events of 9/11 including the rescue and recovery mission and the acts of generosity and support from nations around the world. Walking tours are conducted along the World Trade Centre Site by survivors and rescue workers of the 9/11 attacks.

Civil Rights & Social Justice Tour of Harlem
Discover more about social movements of African – Americans in New York City including the abolitionist movement against slavery, the civil rights movement and today’s struggles for fair housing and equal justice. See the site of the 1964 Harlem uprising, The Bloomfield Department store visited by Martin Luther King Jr. and much more.

New York State Court
The guided tour of the court facilities will include an explanation of the various roles within the courtroom including that of the jury. The similarities and differences between the US Civil and Criminal trials will also be discussed before the groups are given the opportunity to observe a trail or arrangement in session.

Tenement Museum
The Lower East Side Tenement Museum’s mission is to promote tolerance and historical perspectives through the presentation and interpretation of the variety of immigrant and migrant experiences on Manha6an’s Lower East Side, a gateway to America.

 

ICT 

Microsoft Store Workshops
Take a tour of Microsoft’s flagship store and take part in one of their two-hour workshops. You could create your own app using TouchDevelop, or build your own gaming world and characters with Project Spark. A great way to get some hands-on experience in an inspiring and iconic environment.

Museum of Moving Image Workshops
Hands-on workshops are offered as a supplement to guided tours of the Museum’s exhibitions, and support learning across a variety of curricular areas. They offer an hour long Video Game Programming workshop where students use programming software to build their own versions of a ping-pong style video game.

Nintendo World
Nintendo ambassadors can guide you through interactive gaming areas and provide a history of Nintendo by explaining the items on display in the Nintendo Showcase.

 

BUSINESS & ECONOMICS 

Federal Reserve Bank of New York
The Federal Reserve Bank of New York is located in the heart of the financial district. The guided tour explains the central banking functions that the Federal Reserve system performs and shows a video on cash processing and the gold vault.

Museum of American Finance
The nation’s only independent museum dedicated to preserving, exhibiting and teaching about American finance and financial history. Lessons and lectures can be run on the day including Banking in America, How to Analyse a Stock, and Your Money and Your Success.

Walking Tour of the Financial District
This guided tour explores the historic and financial heart of New York, traces the development of Wall Street as the world’s premier financial centre. Stops include: J.P. Morgan’s bank, the New York Stock Exchange, Fraunces Tavern, the Federal Reserve Bank, and sites associated with Alexander Hamilton, John D. Rockefeller, and Victoria Woodhull.

Skyscraper Museum
The Skyscraper Museum celebrates the City’s rich architectural heritage and examines the historical forces and individuals that have shaped its successive skylines. The museum explores tall buildings as objects of design, products of technology, sites of construction, investments in real estate, and places of work and residence.

 

New York Hall of Science
NYSCI, New York City’s hands-on science and technology centre, has more than 100,000 square feet of indoor exhibition space to explore.
